Introducing New Alerting Capabilities: Concealment, Grab and Run, Door Blocked, and Wrong-Way Driving
Our alerting capabilities are designed to minimize the amount of camera footage security teams have to watch, turning relevant events into proactive and actionable notifications. We’re excited to announce several new alerts that can be configured by users within Verkada Command.
Detect Shoplifting in Real Time
Last year, we introduced AI-powered activity detection alerts to identify human behaviors like climbing, falling, and fighting as they unfold in front of a camera. Building on that foundation, we’re excited to announce two new types of activity detection alerts that can be configured within Command:
Concealment: Allows retailers to get notified when a person hides merchandise in a bag or backpack.
Grab and run: Allows retailers to get notified when a person grabs objects and runs away.
Together, these new activity detection alerts provide retail organizations with proactive tools to detect shoplifting. Once identified, relevant footage can be added to incident reports and shared directly with law enforcement or insurance providers.
Identify Blocked Doors
Ensuring entrances and exits remain unobstructed is a key part of any facility manager’s job. This allows people to flow seamlessly throughout a building, and promotes prompt egress in the event of an evacuation or emergency.
Our new door blocked alerts periodically analyze camera thumbnails to detect obstructed doors. To avoid false alarms, the system double-checks after a few minutes to ensure that a door is actually blocked and was not temporarily held open or obstructed. If the door remains blocked, designated users are notified immediately.
Detect Wrong-Way Driving
Whether it’s a forklift in a warehouse aisle or a car in a pick-up lane, facilities often rely on one-way traffic flow to keep people safe. Our new wrong-way driving alerts streamline the process of setting up vehicle line crossing alerts, only requiring the user to draw a line and select the intended direction of travel.
Any time a vehicle is detected driving against the desired flow of traffic, a notification will be delivered to users, allowing facilities and security teams to proactively identify unwanted, illegal, or irregular driving maneuvers to help protect people and property.
Availability
New AI-powered activity detection alerts, door blocked alerts, and wrong-way driving alerts will be available to all Command organizations on October 8, 2026.
