How NIC Partners Helps Schools and Communities Stay Safe

With Nil Radadia, Director of Alliances & Partnerships

The Partner

For more than two decades, NIC Partners has existed for one purpose: every school and every community deserves to be a place of discovery, not fear. Working alongside education, municipality and government partners across California, NIC Partners believes that safety is not a feature to be purchased. It is a promise to be kept.

Nil Radadia began his career there as a junior engineer 22 years ago, has earned more than 45 industry certifications and now serves as the company’s Director of Alliances and Partnerships. Based in Rancho Cucamonga, NIC Partners brings deep technical expertise like Radadia’s to each of its deployments and can look beyond individual products and security environments to truly understand its customers’ needs and how they evolve.

The Challenge

Across many customer environments, NIC Partners saw the same challenge: one with real stakes for the schools, cities and organizations that depend on these systems daily. Aging cameras and traditional network video recorders (NVRs) were becoming increasingly expensive to maintain and hard to scale. Every day that a system ran on borrowed time and unreliable equipment was a day where safety levels could potentially drop. As older cameras began to fail, upgrading from lower-resolution models to newer 4K devices placed more demand on bandwidth, processing power and storage.

For customers already facing an end-of life camera refresh, that often meant replacing not only the devices themselves but also the servers and storage structures supporting them. A straightforward upgrade could quickly become a costly infrastructure overhaul, the kind of project that gets deferred and further putting safety levels at risk.

Simultaneously, customers wanted more than newer hardware. They wanted better analytics, easier management and tools that employees with limited IT experience could learn how to use with confidence without needing to file support tickets. NIC Partners saw an opportunity to help organizations move beyond fragmented, server-heavy systems and build a more sustainable foundation for physical security.

Partners at Verkada Conference

Why Verkada?

The relationship began at ISC West during Verkada’s early years. At that time, Verkada’s initial camera offering felt similar to technology the NIC Partners team already knew. The reason to add another platform wasn’t quite clear yet.

That changed as Verkada expanded its research and development efforts, introduced more advanced analytics and built a broader physical security platform spanning video security, access control, alarms, intercoms and workplace management.

"Verkada started to stand out by adding analytics that nobody else was doing." —Radadia, NIC Partners

The partnership took persistence and once NIC Partners saw how the tech and the channel relationship complement its own expertise, not compete, the partnership took off. Just as important, Verkada invited NIC Partners to offer its technical knowledge. Drawing on extensive experience designing and deploying intercom systems in particular, NIC Partners joined Verkada’s intercom beta program, sharing customer use cases, product feedback and lessons learned from decades in the field. That collaboration gave NIC Partners a role in shaping a stronger solution for the organizations it serves.

The Solution

One of the clearest examples of NIC Partners’ approach came from Torrance Unified School District whose legacy cameras were failing and nearing the end of their useful life, leaving thousands of students and staff dependent on an outdated system. Replacing the existing cameras within the same traditional architecture would also have meant a significant investment in new recording servers and storage.

NIC Partners helped the district rethink the entire environment. Instead of rebuilding another server-based system, the team replaced the aging infrastructure with more than 2,500 Verkada cameras using onboard storage and edge processing. This reduced the district’s reliance on data-center infrastructure while adding advanced analytics through a single, cloud-based platform.

The deployment didn’t end with installation. NIC Partners worked with the Verkada team to host an in-person professional development day for district leaders. School principals learned how to use their own dashboards, navigate the platform from their phones and investigate incidents without having to submit a request to IT, thereby keeping the ability to protect their students in the hands of the people who know them best.

The Result: Faster Investigations

By moving systems to edge processing, NIC Partners helped the district protect its investment in existing infrastructure while giving staff a faster, more reliable way to respond to incidents. The district also reduced the power, cooling and physical footprint of its previous data-center infrastructure. These resources are redirected toward strengthening protection and not cutting costs.

"We didn't just save money, we gave the district a system its own people could actually rely on. They didn't have to wait on a 'forklift upgrade' to get there.'"—Radadia, NIC Partners

Greater Independence & Ease of Use

With the previous system, the IT team had to handle nearly every request for footage because the platform was difficult for other employees to use. With hands-on training and simpler tools, school principals could now review footage and investigate many incidents independently, reducing support tickets and delays.

Advanced search also changed how quickly the district could respond. Whether a student was reported missing from class, in distress, or their parent needed to reach them, administrators can use AI search to upload a photo of the student and search across all cameras to locate them anywhere on campus or even across districts, in seconds. The platform also introduced license plate recognition (LPR), and the district later expanded its deployment to include cameras on school buses, extending that same fast response onto the ride to and from school.

Continuous Customer Support

NIC Partners remains the customer’s first line of support, working alongside Verkada account managers, solutions engineers and technical teams when an issue requires deeper expertise or escalation. That shared support model helps customers get answers quickly and reinforces the long-term nature of the relationship.

"Even though the sale is done, the account managers are still involved to make sure those customers are being taken care of after the sale." —Radadia, NIC Partners

Looking Ahead

What began as a persistent introduction has become a mature partnership built on technical collaboration, customer support and shared growth. Today, NIC Partners continues helping schools, cities and other organizations across industries in California replace aging infrastructure, simplify physical security and prepare for what comes next.

The team also shares its experience with other integrators evaluating Verkada, pointing to the simplicity of deployment, the breadth of the platform and the strength of the sales and technical support behind it. For NIC Partners, the value is not only in offering a more unified approach to physical security but in working with a platform willing to listen to expert feedback, learn and keep building alongside its partners.
