Last November we introduced AI-powered deterrence, enabling organizations to deter unwanted activity with human-like warnings that can incorporate scene context. Since then, customers in our private beta have used AI-powered deterrence to protect outdoor equipment, prevent crimes of opportunity, and discourage loitering on their property.
Today, we’re excited to announce that AI-powered deterrence is available in public beta, helping more organizations move from reactive security to real-time prevention. Alongside public beta availability, we’re introducing two enhancements to this feature:
New voices, randomized to deter repeat offenders
Deterrence via intercoms for a discreet, all-in-one solution
New Voices
One of the key learnings from our beta customers was that deterrence is most effective when it remains unpredictable. That’s why we’re introducing new, randomized voices so that each deterrence event sounds different.
This approach helps prevent repeat offenders from becoming accustomed to the same voice and reinforces the perception of active monitoring. By varying tone and delivery, deterrence continues to feel credible and human-like, even in locations that experience frequent or recurring activity.
Deterrence via Intercoms
We’re also expanding the ways in which organizations can deploy AI-powered deterrence. In addition to the typical camera-and-speaker combo, organizations can enable deterrence on Verkada intercoms – a single device with a built-in camera, high-decibel speaker, and even a badge reader for arming/disarming.

For aesthetic-conscious locations such as retail stores, banks, and professional services firms, intercom-based deterrence offers a cleaner and more discreet installation. And at sites where intercoms are already part of daily operations, including schools, warehouses, and offices, deterrence can now be added without new hardware and cabling.
Beyond performing AI deterrence, intercoms now act as full-fledged speakers in a Verkada alarm system – meaning they can be used for automated announcements and human agent talk down if an alarm is raised.
