Streamline Security Operations with an Improved Intercom and Viewing Station Integration
Verkada video intercoms play a key role in security operations for many organizations. Beyond offering clear two-way communication for emergency calling and entryway management scenarios, they also feature a built-in video security camera to bolster organizational security with valuable visual context. These intercom cameras also integrate seamlessly with the VX52 Viewing Station, which displays the feeds of connected Verkada devices, including cameras, air quality sensors, and access controllers.
The live feeds shown on the VX52 are typically presented as one of up to hundreds of tiles on the Viewing Station, so when a call is placed on an intercom, call receivers and operators often struggle to search for the correct video tile while they answer the call from a traditional landline or VoIP phone. This can cause delays and frustration, especially in critical emergencies where every second counts.
Today, we're solving that problem with the next evolution of our Intercom-Viewing Station integration: when an intercom call comes in, the corresponding camera feeds expand and instantly take over the Viewing Station monitor in a full screen view. This provides a large, clear picture for everyone in the room, helping to enable a quicker and more informed response.
How It Works
When a visitor initiates a call from an intercom, the video feed from the intercom camera and up to four additional context cameras are automatically displayed in full screen on the Viewing Station, providing a better view of the situation. In the event of simultaneous intercom calls, the screen shows live previews from each intercom, making it easy to prioritize and answer the most critical call first.
On the dispatch center’s end, the active call can be minimized at any time to resume the default view of all cameras on the Viewing Station. Operators can also easily navigate back to the call using the fixed banner at the top of the Viewing Station screen.

When the call ends, the intercom feed automatically shrinks and reverts back to a regular tile on the viewing station monitor.
This streamlined process helps ensure that security teams can immediately see the person calling for help and their surroundings, enabling a faster and more effective response.
