Introducing Verkada’s First Wireless Lock: Centrally Secure Every Door
Traditional lock-and-key systems no longer meet the needs of modern organizations. Lost or stolen keys and constant turnover often saddle teams with costly, time-consuming rekeying.
Digital access control offers a smarter, safer alternative – replacing physical keys with secure credentials, enabling admins to instantly revoke and grant access to users, maintaining detailed audit trails, and, crucially, allowing security teams to lock down doors immediately with a single click.
Yet for many organizations, extending access control to every door remains out of reach. Schools with dozens of classroom doors, universities with dorms, senior living communities with private rooms, and other organizations with countless interior doors all face the same challenge: the cost, complexity, and time involved in wiring every door is often prohibitive.
That’s why today, we’re excited to introduce the Verkada Wireless Lock Series, starting with the AL54, Verkada’s first natively integrated wireless lock and a true game-changer for physical security.

With the AL54, organizations can bring proactive, enterprise-grade security to more doors than ever, without the cost and complexity of traditional wired installations. Fully integrated into the Verkada platform, the AL54 empowers teams to intuitively manage every door through a single pane of glass.
Precise Control When It Matters Most
Access control provides day-to-day security and convenience, but the most critical benefit is one that organizations hope to never need: immediately locking doors in case of emergency. Research from the Sandy Hook Commission shows that a locked door is the single most impactful way to protect people during a violent threat.
Verkada Access Control enables organizations to initiate lockdowns for some or all doors, across multiple sites, with a single click from a web browser or mobile device, or a press of a panic button. Admins can monitor door statuses on a floor plan, view live camera footage for situational awareness, and remotely unlock doors for first responders.
The AL54 takes this critical functionality a step further with an on-device trigger. If an individual feels endangered, a simple push of a button on the interior side of the lock will automatically lock the door in their immediate environment, even if a site-wide lockdown isn't in effect.
In a crisis, certainty matters. Whether a lockdown is triggered locally or remotely, the AL54 provides clear visual confirmation. Unlike many wireless locks, it features an LED status indicator on the interior side that blinks red in a distinct pattern during lockdowns. This allows people inside a room to verify the door is locked without stepping into a potentially dangerous hallway.

A built in latch-bolt monitor and door position indicator combine to help ensure that doors are closed, locked, and latched.
Simple Setup, Proactive Management, Reliable Performance
The AL54 brings the ease of Verkada's unified platform to wireless locks for the first time. For installers, the process is seamless: once batteries are in, the lock can be easily connected to a nearby wireless hub, which then connects to a Verkada access controller. Each controller supports up to 16 locks within a 150 feet radius or up to a 2000 feet radius with an unobstructed line of sight, leveraging Verkada’s proprietary VLink wireless protocol for an extended, reliable range.

Bringing up and managing wireless locks in Verkada Command is intuitive. Adjusting users, credentials, and schedules for 10 doors or 10,000 is effortless with features like role-based access control and bulk door settings, with changes taking effect immediately.
Once deployed, the AL54 offers continuous, reliable performance. It receives over-the-air firmware updates, helping to keep devices secure without manual intervention. Teams can also receive proactive alerts for low battery status, or disconnected hubs or locks. All standard access control alerts—like door held/forced open or deactivated credential use—are fully supported too.
A Seamless Experience for Every User
The AL54 is designed for convenience, offering a smooth experience for those interacting with access-controlled doors daily. Doors can be quickly and seamlessly unlocked in several ways, including:
Proximity cards and fobs
Secure Verkada EV3 cards and fobs
Bluetooth Intent Unlock
Mobile NFC (Apple Wallet and Android)
Remote unlock via Command or the Verkada Pass app
The LED status indicator on both the interior and exterior sides of the lock provides clear visual cues about the door's state. Different colors and blinking patterns instantly communicate if a door is unlocked, access controlled, or locked down.
Built for Versatility and Durability
The AL54 is engineered for diverse environments and rigorous demands. Available in two lock types, including the AL54-CY cylindrical lock and the AL54-MS mortise lock, it suits a wide array of door installations.
This lock isn't just convenient: it's built to last. The AL54 has undergone extensive testing and will ship with UL's three-hour fire rating and ANSI Grade 1 certification - the highest possible ANSI level, indicating it has successfully completed one million cycles. While wireless locks are typically used on interior doors, the AL54's IP65 rating makes it suitable for optional exterior use.
Availability
The AL54-CY Cylindrical Lock will be available for pre-order on September 30 and will ship in November 2025 with an MSRP of $1,399. The AL54-MS Mortise Lock will be available for pre-order on September 30 and will ship by early 2026 with an MSRP of $1,799 MSRP.
For customers who continue to utilize third-party wireless locks, Verkada remains committed to full feature support for the following integrated locks: Assa Abloy’s Aperio and IP series, Schlage’s AD, Engage, and Control Series, and SimonsVoss SmartIntego Series.
We're incredibly excited to offer the first truly natively integrated access control solution within the Verkada platform.
