Quickly Identify and React to Incidents of Interest with AI-Powered Activity Detection Alerts

Verkada makes it easy to get alerted when a certain event takes place - whether a person of interest is detected on a camera or a license plate of interest is captured. But in some situations, it’s not the presence of a person or vehicle that matters, but the type of activity that is taking place. For example, you probably don’t want to get alerted when a group of people are walking through a store, but you do want to get alerted if one of those people slips and falls on a wet floor.

To support these use cases, we are excited to introduce AI-powered activity detection alerts. To begin, organizations can set alerts on two types of activity:

  • Individuals climbing over a fence, gate, or wall. This alert is particularly helpful for perimeter protection where nearby motion is common.

  • Individuals falling. This alert can help retailers, manufacturers, healthcare facilities, and others increase safety and strengthen liability protection.

To support this new feature, our in-house team of AI and computer vision engineers has built and trained a video-based model designed to recognize specific types of activity. Rather than analyzing a single frame of footage - which is how our cameras identify a person or vehicle - this model ties multiple frames together to identify the action taking place in the camera’s field of view. AI-powered activity detection alerts leverage the computing power available on Verkada’s third-generation devices to accurately identify relevant events with minimal latency, delivering near real-time notifications to system users.

AI-powered activity detection alerts will be available on select 4K and fisheye model cameras beginning October 9, 2025; availability on additional cameras will follow shortly.*
