Verkada has been ranked the largest provider of cloud access control worldwide by Omdia, based on market share.
This milestone reflects more than scale. It highlights the trust of more than 30,000 organizations across 160 countries and how customer partnerships continue to shape a new standard for access control — one that’s easier to manage, faster to deploy, and seamlessly integrated across the security ecosystem.
Market Context: A Growing Shift to the Cloud
Organizations are rapidly moving away from legacy, server-heavy access control systems toward cloud-native solutions that are easier to manage, faster to deploy, and built to scale. Omdia reports the global market for cloud access control grew more than 15% in 2024 and is expected to grow at a 27.9% compound annual growth rate (CAGR), nearly doubling by 2029 to account for 32% of the global Access Control as a Service (ACaaS) market.
Verkada is at the forefront of this shift, with a dominant share of the Americas market that shows how organizations are adopting cloud-based platforms that scale flexibly from a single door to enterprise-wide deployments.

Redefining Access Control for the Modern Enterprise
For decades, organizations were limited by legacy access control systems — racks of servers, siloed software, and patching cycles that slowed response and left security teams stretched thin. Security leaders needed something different: a solution that scaled with them, simplified their workload, and delivered security they could trust in critical moments.
That need shaped our approach to physical security:
Plug-and-play hardware that replaces complex servers and controllers.
Centralized management through Verkada Command, a single web- and mobile-based platform for all doors, credentials, schedules, and users.
Reliability by design with edge storage and peer-to-peer communication that keep doors operational — even during network outages.
Scalability, from a single site to thousands of doors, all managed effortlessly across locations.
Native integration across Verkada’s video, intercom, alarms, and visitor management — combined with AI-powered insights — gives teams unified visibility, faster anomaly detection, and more confident incident response.

Product Momentum from VerkadaOne
At VerkadaOne, we introduced innovations that both anticipate where access control is headed and reflect what customers value most: simpler deployments, broader coverage, and new ways to secure doors without added complexity.
AF64 Access Station Pro with Face Unlock
Coming this winter, the AF64 is our most sophisticated access device yet, unifying a controller, reader, touchscreen, and AI-powered security camera into a sleek PoE-powered unit. It also introduces Face Unlock, which allows users to simply walk up to a door and unlock it by looking at the door reader: no need to fumble for a badge, unlock a phone, or enter a PIN. Facial recognition is paired with a cutting-edge 3D indirect time-of-flight (iToF) sensor for infrared and depth detection, deterring spoofing attempts with photos, videos, or masks. The AF64 is a powerful and elegant device, ideal for modern office spaces, high-throughput entryways, and high-security zones.
AL54 Wireless Lock
The AL54 is Verkada’s first natively integrated wireless lock, designed to bring enterprise-grade access control to more doors without the prohibitive cost of traditional wiring. Ideal for schools, universities, senior living communities, and workplaces with dozens — or hundreds — of interior doors, it upgrades traditional lock-and-key doors with a smart, connected solution.
The AL54 features a multi-technology reader supporting a range of credential types, including Bluetooth Intent Unlock; an interior and exterior LED indicator providing clear visual feedback on the door’s state; a built-in latch bolt monitor and door position indicator to help ensure doors are closed, locked, and latched; and a local schedule override button to trigger local changes to the door’s state with a simple button push. The AL54 is easy to set up in Command and uses Verkada’s VLink wireless protocol for connectivity.

Together, the AF64 and AL54 show how innovation, combined with customer feedback, continues to shape the future of access control — bringing sophisticated and seamlessly integrated experiences to single-site and global operations. And they’re just part of the portfolio: Verkada also offers traditional access controllers, readers, physical and mobile credentials, and integrations with third-party wireless locks, giving customers the flexibility to modernize access control across every type of door.
Real-World Results with Verkada Access Control
Organizations of all sizes are rethinking how they manage access with Verkada — from schools safeguarding students, to enterprises modernizing workplaces, to governments protecting civic facilities.
Safer Schools and Campuses
In July, we announced that Verkada now partners with schools and universities serving an estimated 20 million students and 2.5 million teachers and staff, underscoring how central access control has become to creating safer learning environments.
Educators have been especially clear about what they need: tools that make emergency response faster, investigations easier, and daily management simpler.

At La Cañada Unified School District, teachers can now lock classroom doors from the inside instead of stepping into a hallway — a small change with life-saving potential.
“Our teachers can safely lock classroom doors from the inside, instead of having to swipe their badges from outside the classroom.” — Jamie Lee Lewsadder, Associate Superintendent of Technology Services.
At the Imperial County Office of Education, native integration between cameras and access control make incident resolution faster:
“Cameras and access control are natively integrated, so we can easily view video footage alongside any door event. This makes it easier and faster to investigate and resolve incidents across our sites.” — Luis Alejandro Wong, Chief Technology Officer
At Greenfield Community College, one-tap campus-wide lockdowns have become a cornerstone of emergency preparedness:
“Verkada had everything I was looking for in an access system: centralized control, cloud-based, no servers required, and intuitive enough that I don’t need to spend a day training people how to use it.” — Alex Wiltz, Director of Public Safety, Chief of Police, and Emergency Management Coordinator

The story extends globally. In Sweden, Futuraskolan has reduced IT workload while improving safety:
“It’s not just cameras or access controls — it’s peace of mind, faster investigations, less IT workload, and better protection for students and staff.” — Teresa de Freitas, Head of IT & GDPR
And in Australia, Immanuel Lutheran College is using digital passes to simplify access for new staff and contractors:
