Today, we’re excited to announce a new addition to Verkada’s lineup of cloud-based access control security products: the AC62 16 Door Controller. With the AC62, customers can bring the cloud functionality of the industry’s first natively-integrated access control and video security solution to four times more doors across buildings and campuses.
The AC62 brings the scale and simplicity of Verkada to large-scale deployments, reducing IT overhead and simplifying access control installation and management. The AC62 completes Verkada’s lineup of door controllers and takes Verkada’s family of access credentials, door readers, and wireless lock integrations to a new scale and scope. Additionally, with one-click integrations to Verkada’s Video Security, Guest, Alarm products and more, customers can now deploy large-scale access deployments even faster.
Enterprise-Ready Door Controller
The AC62 allows customers to access control 16 doors on one controller and manage everything at scale from Verkada Command, a cloud-based platform with point-and-click simplicity. Customers can utilize the AC62 to connect up to 16 hardwired doors with door readers, door strikes, mag locks, or other door hardware. In addition to natively connecting with Verkada’s AD32 door reader, the AC62 also integrates with 3rd party card readers that utilize the Wiegand communication interface. This includes readers from HID and others.
The AC62 can also interface with auxiliary inputs and outputs, allowing customers to bring more devices and peripherals under the Verkada umbrella.
Simplified Integration With Fire Alarm Systems
The AC62 also includes a Fire Alarm Interface (FAI). The FAI on the AC62 can power down door locks when a signal from a Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) is received. In that scenario, the AC62 will de-energize powered locks in case of a fire emergency to unlock fail safe doors. Many customers configure their AC62 to remove power from maglocks when a fire alarm occurs, allowing for faster egress and firefighter access.
The AC62 also has latching capabilities, which means the FAI will remain triggered until a reset signal is received. To reset the FAI panel, fire departments will use a key or relay to manually reset after the building has been cleared of a fire.
The Simplicity of the Cloud at Enterprise Scale
The Verkada AC62 was built with security, scale and simplicity in mind. As a cloud-based platform, hardware, network, cloud and application security are paramount. In addition to leveraging AES 128 encryption in transit, Verkada’s cloud platform utilizes AES 256 encryption at rest to store hashed credentials, badge events, user history, logs and more. Lastly, Verkda’s systems utilize 2-factor authentication and role-based access control to ensure application access remains secure.
With a strong foundation in security, Verkada’s suite of cloud-based products allows customers to simplify their on-premise IT infrastructure footprint by eliminating unnecessary systems and centralizing management on Verkada Command. Like the rest of the Verkada ecosystem, the AC62 door controller utilizes a hybrid-cloud architecture to simplify access control installation.
The AC62 connects to Verkada Command via an Ethernet connection - no servers, thick or thin clients required. With a backup battery, the controller can even operate offline to secure doors in the event of a power outage.
In addition to controlling 16 doors, the AC62’s seamless cloud integration allows customers to control entire buildings and campuses with an easy-to-use cloud platform. With Verkada’s simplified cloud-based system, customers can manage door schedules, view door events, trigger building lockdowns and more – from anywhere and on any device.
Beyond simplified door access control, Verkada’s cloud-based system allows for modern management of user credentials across any number of doors or sites globally, providing a truly end-to-end cloud solution. From automated user provisioning and de-provisioning with Verkada’s SCIM integration to the touchless access experience offered by the Verkada Pass App, Verkada’s access control system provides users with a modern, end-to-end access experience.
Lastly, the AC62 has been thoughtfully designed from the ground up. The AC62’s detachable terminal blocks allow for fast and simplified installation and the ability secure the most unruly cables. The elegant mounting bracket allows installers to size and place the unit effortlessly. A stenciled diagram on the enclosure door provides a convenient surface for quick notes and wiring annotations. Lastly, as a unified 16 door controller, the AC62 minimizes the hardware footprint by up to 40% compared to four AC41s, allowing for more space-conscious deployments.
