What is Better Sensor Protocol (BSP)?
Better Sensor Protocol (BSP) is a high-capacity, addressable sensor protocol engineered to transmit both power and data across long distances over a single wire run.
Designed to simplify legacy takeovers and scale physical security coverage over long distances, BSP makes it easier than ever to wire large areas with hundreds of doors, such as warehouses and distribution centers.
Key advantages of BSP include:
High-Density Site Coverage: Supports up to 200 door contacts or 50 powered motion sensors (such as the QM11-R) on a single daisy-chained wire run.
Integrated Power Distribution: Powered sensors operate directly off the BSP run, eliminating the need for external DC power supplies in the field.
Zero-Touch Discovery: Unlike legacy polling loops that require manual DIP switch configuration or complex addressing, BSP automatically discovers and orders devices on the run.

Simplify Warehouse Takeovers
We've made it easy to upgrade existing installs to BSP. Simply replace existing polling loop modules with QX51 BSP Sensor Modules, and then plug the existing wire run into a Verkada alarm panel’s BSP port or via a QX61 BSP RS-485 Adapter.
By running both power and data over a single pair of wires, organizations can daisy-chain up to 100 QX51 modules per run. With two input zones per module (one powered, one unpowered), a single run supports up to 200 doors or 50 powered motion sensors.
Rather than struggling with legacy DIP switches and manual mapping, BSP delivers plug-and-play simplicity. Connected modules automatically discover and order themselves on the line, instantly feeding into Verkada Command with live sensor tracking, automated health checks, and over-the-air firmware updates out of the box.
Acting as a dedicated protocol interface, the QX61 connects an RS-485 port on a Verkada alarm panel directly to a downstream BSP run. This enables panels to communicate seamlessly with any BSP device, including QX51 adapters and QM11-R motion sensors.
