Today, we’re excited and honored to announce that Verkada has been recognized on the annual LinkedIn Top Startups List for 2021. This is the third year in a row Verkada has made the list of top places to work among startups by LinkedIn, which looks at billions of actions generated by its 740 million members to identify emerging companies with the highest levels of growth, jobseeker interest, and employee engagement.
Verkada products now protect over 7,800 companies and organizations (up from 4,200 in 2020), including 40 of the Fortune 500. Alongside the rapid growth of our customer-base, we have expanded our product ecosystem to include Alarms with 24/7 professional monitoring, new Video Security and Access Control devices, as well as multiple OTA software feature upgrades. We have also accelerated global expansion with the opening of three new offices and welcomed over 350 new team members from all around the world.
We will continue setting the bar high for innovation, fostering an inclusive work culture with our communities, and modernizing physical security to make the world safer — one integrated building at a time. As we strive towards our mission to protect people, assets and privacy, our team shares what they look forward to the most in Verkada’s future. Take a look:
“Verkada uses the latest technology to help protect people while implementing sensible privacy-by-design principles. The whole team is laser-focused on delivering a software-first mentality to the physical security industry, and addressing evolving customer pain points in ways that most traditional solutions cannot. The company leadership also strives to build an engineering culture that cares about people, and supports everyone’s growth. It is an incredible experience to work and grow with such an amazing group of people.”
Yunchao Gong, Director of Engineering, AI and Computer Vision
“Verkada is not only innovative with the products and features that we bring to the security space, but also with how we approach company initiatives, internal promotions and creating an inclusive, supportive workplace. Back in May 2020, we launched the Women at Verkada (WAV) Community, and two months later we were hosting events, bringing in guest speakers and running fundraisers for important causes. As co-chair of the community, it's exciting to lead a group of such amazing women and feel the support and cohesiveness across all of our departments and offices. In August 2021, I was given the opportunity to move to our London office to help support the growth of our EMEA sales team. As we begin to host more WAV events here with our EMEA team, it is apparent now more than ever that Verkada puts an emphasis on hiring a diverse workforce and creating an incredible workplace experience. The opportunities I’ve been given, the support I’ve received from our leadership team, and the internal communities and initiatives like WAV make me grateful and proud to work at Verkada.”
Sarah Reilert, Sales Manager of UK & Ireland, Co-Chair of Women at Verkada
“A year ago we were a camera company with only a vision of creating the operating system of the modern building. In less than 12 months we made it a reality by launching our Access Control, Environmental Sensors, and Alarms & Intrusion product lines. We simultaneously expanded on our camera offering with 6 new camera models and software features, like license plate recognition. It still feels like we’re just getting started, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s coming next.”
Jake Stauch, Product Manager, New Products
“The transition into becoming a multi-product building security platform has been an exciting challenge for our team this past year. We launched an all-new Command Web redesign that integrates our product lines into a seamless experience for our customers. We completed a large re-plumbing project that sets our platform up for additional world-class security & privacy features. Just as we secure our customer's physical assets, we are expanding our abilities to secure cloud assets as well. As we look to next year, we are equally excited to tackle the scale challenges that come as our customer base continues to grow.”
Anna Do, Core Engineering Manager
“Customer adoption over the last year has been nothing short of incredible. With three new product lines in the last year, our total addressable market has more than doubled. To that end, our focus will be to continue rapidly scaling our customer-centric sales organization to deliver best-in-class products to the market.”
Ryan Bettencourt, VP of Sales
“Verkada is a company of Destiny. Not often do you get the opportunity to merge a fantastic product with a relevant need, but here you get the opportunity to make your mark on one of the fastest growing start-ups to ever exist."
Salim Jackson, Senior Account Executive - Team Lead
“The range of different challenges and technologies that I am able to tackle is a breath of fresh air, and keeps things interesting for me. We give our engineers agency, because some of the best ideas come from within. When faced with a problem, an engineer’s dream is to try to fix it — that’s something everyone is involved in.”
Mickael, Senior Software Engineer
“There’s a huge opportunity for advancing quickly in your career at Verkada because you can take on more responsibilities and ownership than you would at a larger organization, where you’re often confined to a particular task. With a small team, I’ve had the opportunity to lead some of the camera line products and understand from a management perspective why certain decisions need to be made. Being able to interface with the product and executive team gives me a high-level understanding of why we need to build certain products. I help them explore the answers to these questions in my work, which is good for not only the company, but my personal growth as well.”
Shaival Shah, Camera Hardware Engineering Lead
“I feel very fortunate to be a part of a company that is so focused on its employees and the wider community. On a day to day basis, I get to marry two of my passions— people and philanthropy. The pandemic brought into sharp focus the interconnectedness of family, work and life and the need for us to focus on the overall wellbeing of our employees. In an effort to support health and greater connectivity among our employees, we launched wellness programs — including our inaugural wellness month — and hosted global step challenges. In addition to our existing communities, such as Women at Verkada, Pride at Verkada, Parents at Verkada and the Multicultural community, we have just launched a new employee resource group — Verkada Fit — aimed at promoting physical and emotional wellbeing. We also launched Verkada Gives, exemplifying our commitment to give back to the communities in which we live, work and operate. It has been inspiring to be part of this initiative and to partner with causes that align with our own company mission of protecting people, assets and privacy.”
