Identify Animal Sightings with Animal Detection

Verkada cameras are able to identify people, vehicles, and general motion within the field of view, pinpointing specific activity quickly and accurately. But many organizations also wish to capture another type of visitor: animals.

We are excited to announce that Command users can now filter for animal sightings, in addition to people, vehicles, and motion.

Organizations can also create alerts to proactively notify specific users any time animals are detected moving, gathering, loitering, or crossing a virtual line. From here, recipients can investigate relevant camera footage to determine any actions or precautions that need to be taken. Animal detection alerts encompass all animals visible within a camera’s field of view, and cannot be set up to include or exclude specific types of animals.

Whether you want to warn nearby individuals any time a bear is seen or simply prevent wildlife from raiding your garden, animal detection provides new insights into activity captured across your camera fleet.

Animal detection will be available to all Command organizations on November 13, 2025.
