Gain Detailed Insights into Vehicle Movements with LPR Zones

Verkada’s license plate recognition (LPR) technology can help organizations locate vehicles of interest, identify frequent visitors, and even grant access to known vehicles as they approach a gate.

Building on this foundation, we’re excited to introduce LPR zones – a new feature that provides visibility into how vehicles move through parking lots, drive-thrus, service centers, and other areas with frequent vehicle activity.

Here’s how it works:

First, users define vehicle entrance and exit points on their LPR-enabled cameras. This creates an “LPR zone.” When a specific vehicle enters the zone, Verkada automatically tracks how long that vehicle spent in the zone, and if and when it left. Tracking is done based on license plate data, pulling together entry and exit events to give a history of how long that vehicle was on premise.

LPR zones provide help to understand which vehicles are currently within a certain area and how long vehicles spent on site. Data from each zone is aggregated within a detailed dashboard that highlights key trends, enables comparison against historical data, and offers powerful search and filtering tools.

LPR zones unlock valuable operational insights across a wide range of industries and use cases:

• Parking lot management: Monitor occupancy in real time, track parking duration, and flag vehicles that exceed maximum stay limits.

• Food and beverage drive-thrus: Measure throughput, optimize staffing to eliminate bottlenecks during peak hours, and understand the mix of repeat versus first-time customers.

• Vehicle service centers: Gain visibility into how long each vehicle spends in a service bay, track wait times, and align staffing levels with demand.

• Logistics yard management: View trucks that are currently on site and track loading and unloading times.

With LPR zones, organizations can extend the value of their LPR-enabled cameras, turning everyday vehicle activity into actionable insights. This real-time intelligence helps teams operate more efficiently, enforce rules and regulations, and improve the overall experience for vehicles arriving on site.
