Today, we’re launching Verkada Transportation, bringing our physical security platform to vehicles, such as buses, trains, and ferries. The product line introduces three ruggedized cameras, a gateway, and a Command experience — all purpose-built for transportation fleets.

With Verkada’s cloud-managed solution, staff no longer have to wait for vehicles to return to the depot to pull DVR footage; video is accessible remotely, whether vehicles are in transit or turned off. Beyond video security, staff can also monitor fleet health and driving performance from the same pane of glass. For organizations already using Verkada in their facilities, the platform unifies building and fleet security into a single dashboard — streamlining management and extending investigations to wherever people and assets travel.
Transportation Cameras: Visibility Designed for Transit
The new family of transportation cameras includes a discreet dome camera for vehicle interiors, a fisheye for panoramic coverage, and an ultra-rugged wedge camera for vehicle exteriors.

Each camera features Verkada’s latest analytics, enabling AI-powered tools such as fighting detection. They include powerful sensors for a wide field of view and high-resolution footage. Transportation cameras are designed for demanding transit conditions, such as high vibration, extreme temperatures, dust exposure, and high impact.
Each camera model is designed for various placement and coverage needs:
KCD61-E Transportation Dome Camera: Designed for flexible placement, the pill-shaped dome camera mounts more easily on curved walls. It’s our lowest-profile camera to date, maximizing headroom in tight, enclosed cabins.
KCF41-E Transportation Fisheye Camera: The fisheye camera provides 180° panoramic visibility of a vehicle cabin from a single device.
KCW41-E Transportation Wedge Camera: Built for vehicle exteriors, the ultra-rugged camera features a shell to protect the lens from debris, branches, high-pressure power washing, and other extreme outdoor conditions. Precision sealing prevents moisture from entering mounting holes and damaging the vehicle chassis.
Transportation Gateway: Reliable Connectivity and Real-Time Telematics
The KGX61 Ruggedized Transportation Gateway provides power and cloud connectivity to up to 10 transportation cameras via PoE, while capturing GPS location and vehicle telemetry.

To keep footage accessible anywhere, the gateway utilizes 5G while in transit and automatically switches to Wi-Fi when in range. In remote areas without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage, the gateway can connect to third-party uplinks, like satellite terminals, via its WAN port. When a vehicle is turned off, users can still access footage by remotely waking the gateway or accessing footage that has been previously backed up to the cloud.
Beyond providing power and connectivity, the KGX61 captures a vehicle’s GPS location for location-based search tools and fleet management. By connecting directly to a vehicle’s diagnostic system, it relays health metrics such as fuel level and throttle position. Additionally, it automatically detects driving events like sharp turns, harsh braking, and speeding.
Operators can also connect a driver display for live camera feeds, providing drivers with real-time situational awareness. As we continue to build safety and operational capabilities, the gateway will further unify fleet technology systems on one cloud-managed platform.
Command: Faster Investigations and Centralized Fleet Management
All of these hardware capabilities come together seamlessly in Command. The transportation homepage provides an interactive, high-level map displaying live vehicle locations and active trips across a fleet.
Clicking into a vehicle’s details reveals actionable insights, from health metrics to trip histories and driving events. Each trip history shows the complete picture of what happened during a route, integrating location, footage, driving events, camera alerts and more.

From trip history, teams can leverage investigation tools we’ve built specifically for transportation:
Search by incident location: Often, an incident’s location — not time — is the best starting point for an investigation. A user can select a location on a trip and instantly view all associated footage. If they do not know which vehicle captured an incident, they can enter an address to view all nearby trips and pinpoint the right vehicle.
Search by driving event: Each trip shows detected driving events, such as sharp turns, harsh braking, and speeding. For example, if a passenger reports speeding, an administrator can simply click an event marker to view corresponding footage paired with exact driving data.
Document incidents with more context: Users can quickly build a complete incident report that integrates footage, location, and vehicle telemetry.
To accelerate investigations even further, teams can use Verkada’s AI-powered search tools. Users can query with natural language, filter footage with attributes like clothing color, or upload a photo to find a missing person’s last known sighting. They can also set proactive alerts for when a fight breaks out, a slip and fall occurs, or a missing person is seen on camera.
We’ve expanded on these capabilities by linking transportation camera views directly to trip history. Once footage is pinpointed, users can instantly see where along a route that exact moment occurred. For example, once a missing student is identified on camera, staff can map the footage directly to the student’s last known location.

With Verkada Transportation, staff can easily manage daily operations right alongside running investigations. They can review fleet-wide driving events to track overall safety and performance, and they can monitor fleet health to ensure every vehicle is ready for transit.
