No two organizations operate the same way. A school district managing hundreds of daily volunteers has vastly different needs compared to a global organization coordinating interview schedules. Yet, despite these different operations, many security teams face the same hurdle: their operational tools do not integrate with their physical security system. This forces administrators to bridge the gap by manually re-entering visitor and event data from volunteer databases or HR platforms into their visitor management system.
This redundancy is not only tedious; it also introduces human error and creates bottlenecks, making it impossible to scale. We believe security software should adapt to an organization's ecosystem, not the other way around. That is why we are introducing new public APIs for Verkada Guest. These APIs allow developers to create custom integrations specific to their organization’s needs, helping to eliminate redundant work and ensure visitor and event data are accurate, automated, and up to date.
API for Approved Lists
The foundation of a secure visitor management strategy is knowing who is allowed on site. Maintaining up-to-date lists of approved visitors—such as contractors, volunteers, or temporary staff—is critical for security, but keeping these lists synchronized across different systems is a major logistical challenge.
With the new public API for approved lists, organizations can build custom integrations that sync lists of individuals from external platforms directly into Guest. This enables data from third-party systems to automatically update approved visitor lists in Command.
For example, a school district can ensure that as soon as a parent is cleared in an external volunteer database, they are automatically added to the approved list in Guest. Similarly, organizations can enforce strict compliance for contractors: if a worker’s required certifications lapse in an operations platform, their access can be immediately revoked. This facilitates synchronization of access credentials in real time across platforms – without requiring any manual updates.
API for Guest Events
While approved lists control who can enter a location, organizations also need to manage when visitors are scheduled to arrive. But for large events – like conferences or graduations – this information is typically managed on event platforms, not physical security systems. To bridge this gap, we are excited to introduce an API for Guest events.
This API enables developers to build integrations that synchronize event details from external event management platforms directly into Verkada Guest. So no matter what event an organization is planning, they can use their preferred scheduling tools and sync that information with Guest.
This integration also simplifies the experience for visitors. When an event is created via the API, the system can automatically send pre-registration emails to invitees with essential details, such as arrival times and parking instructions. Simultaneously, visitor data is instantly logged in Verkada Guest, giving the front desk a single, centralized view of every expected arrival without requiring manual data entry.
