We are excited to announce a new integration between Verkada Alarms and Access Control – the ability to trigger alarms with door opened, door held open, and door forced open events – enabling organizations to turn their doors into smart alarm sensors.
With this integration, organizations can protect their entryways after hours with alarm monitoring in a more cost-effective manner. Furthermore, the system can reduce false alarms by triggering only when a door is forced open. And just like intrusion sensors, access control triggers can be paired with nearby cameras – allowing monitoring agents to dismiss false alarms and prevent costly false dispatches.

Easier, Smarter, and More Scalable
Organizations with Verkada Access Control can dramatically lower the cost and complexity of implementing an intrusion alarm system. Simply add a BP52 alarm panel to the site, purchase a monitoring license, and configure any doors as alarm triggers in just a few clicks*. This eliminates the need to wire door contact sensors to the alarm panel – not only reducing installation costs but also unlocking support for large sites with hundreds or thousands of doors.
Furthermore, access control triggers are smarter than regular sensor triggers. For example, a door can be set to trigger only when it is forced open – meaning that a valid badge or REX event will not raise an alarm. This can prevent false alarms that occur when someone arms the site but isn’t the last person out, or when an employee accesses the building after hours.
Access control triggers are fully integrated with the Alarms ecosystem. Like intrusion sensors, they can be assigned to partitions, paired with cameras for video verification, and subject to the same arm/disarm methods such as key codes and schedules. This flexibility allows organizations to even solve problems beyond intrusion; for example, a retailer could add their stock room door to a 24/7 armed partition and monitor for door forced open events at all times.
Built With Reliability in Mind
Like all Alarms features, access control triggers were designed with reliability in mind. Verkada access controllers communicate with the BP52 alarm panel over the local network, ensuring fast and reliable response regardless of internet connectivity. Access control triggers leverage the same communication protocol that powers other cross-product integrations like badge-to-disarm and LPR unlock.
Pricing and availability
Access control triggers are included in both the Basic Alarms License and the Advanced Video Alarms License, and will be available on May 15th. There is no limit on the number of access control triggers for either license. To pair cameras for video verification and context, the advanced license is required.
