New Ways to Protect Your Perimeter with Cameras

One of the biggest reasons organizations choose Verkada Alarms is the ability to use cameras as alarm triggers. Compared to traditional motion sensors or door contacts, camera-based triggers are far more intelligent and precise, allowing you to significantly reduce false alarms. And because cameras work both indoors and outdoors, they're uniquely suited for extending protection beyond the four walls of a building to your full perimeter. This is especially powerful when combined with features like AI-powered deterrence, which can automatically intervene before a situation escalates.

Today, we're excited to expand the types of camera triggers across both Verkada and third-party hardware:

  • Line-crossing and loitering triggers on third-party cameras

  • AI-powered deterrence on third-party cameras

  • Vehicle line-crossing triggers on both Verkada and third-party cameras

Advanced Triggers on Third-Party Cameras

Organizations with third-party cameras can already use person detection as an alarm trigger via Command Connector. Now, we're unlocking two types of triggers that are even more powerful: line-crossing and loitering.

Line-crossing triggers raise an alarm when a person crosses a digitally drawn boundary in a specified direction, making it ideal for fencelines and entryways. Loitering triggers raise an alarm when someone stays in a defined region beyond a set duration, useful for identifying vagrancy and vandalism. These triggers give organizations more nuanced control over what constitutes a genuine threat, reducing false alarms from people simply passing through.

This means organizations no longer need to replace their existing cameras to take advantage of smarter, more precise alarm triggers.

AI Deterrence on Third-Party Cameras

We're also bringing AI-powered deterrence to third-party cameras. With this capability, organizations can trigger a sequence of AI-generated warnings that can incorporate scene context and escalate over time if the person remains. Whether it's deterring illegal dumping in a parking lot or discouraging loitering outside a retail location, organizations can put their existing hardware to work as an active layer of perimeter protection.

Vehicle Line-Crossing Triggers

Not all threats arrive on foot. Organizations with large outdoor properties such as manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and equipment yards often need to detect unauthorized vehicle entry, not just unauthorized people.

With vehicle line-crossing triggers, both Verkada and third-party cameras can raise an alarm the moment a vehicle crosses onto your property. This enables a much faster response; rather than waiting for occupants to exit a vehicle and set off a person detection trigger, an alarm is raised as soon as the vehicle breaches the perimeter. As with all camera-based triggers, vehicle line-crossing detections are verified by a human agent to prevent false alarms.

Vehicle line-crossing triggers will be supported on both Verkada cameras and third-party cameras via Command Connector.
