Introducing the BP42 Alarm Panel: Right-Sized Wired and Wireless Coverage for Smaller Sites
No two sites are wired the same, but every facility deserves modern, cloud-managed security. Over the past few years, we've been expanding our alarm hardware portfolio so that any site — regardless of size, wiring, or legacy infrastructure — can upgrade seamlessly. Today, we're adding the BP42 Alarm Panel, built for sites that need real wired sensor coverage without the zone count of a large-site deployment.
The Central Brain of the Alarm System
Every site running intrusion sensors needs an alarm panel. It's the device that connects the system to Command, and orchestrates everything on premises. Keypads, expanders, wireless hubs, and sensors all communicate with the panel locally, so arming, disarming, and alarm signaling keep working through an internet outage rather than waiting on the cloud.
That local architecture is what makes the rest of the system simpler. Configuration lives in Command, but decisions happen on site.
Built for Smaller Sites
The original BP52 Alarm Panel was designed for large, complex deployments with 32 zones and a 4-port PoE switch built in. Plenty of sites don't need anywhere near that. A retail store, clinic, or branch office typically has a handful of door and motion sensors, and space is at a premium.
The new BP42 is scoped to that reality with 10 input zones for wired sensors, each supplying 12V AUX power. It's a straight replacement for a legacy panel, and installers can take over the sensors already in the walls rather than pulling them out.
Like the BP52, the BP42 includes a VLink wireless hub, so up to 160 Verkada wireless sensors can connect to the panel directly with no additional hardware required. Mixed sites — wired sensors on the perimeter doors, wireless where running cable isn't worth it — run on one panel.
The BP42 is also the first Verkada alarm panel with native support for the Better Sensor Protocol (BSP) – Verkada’s high-capacity, addressable sensor protocol engineered to transmit both power and data across long distances over a single wire run. Up to 200 doors or 50 powered motion sensors can be run off of each of the BP42's BSP ports. The system can be further expanded using the four RS-485 ports with the BE32 expanders, or additional BSP runs using the new QX61 BSP Panel Adapter.

Highly Reliable
An alarm system is only as good as its uptime. The BP42 pairs with our cellular backup communicator and the VBX2 battery system to keep the site protected through network and power interruptions. It ships with a built-in mount for the communicator, plus a built-in battery slot and three ports for 75Wh VBX2 batteries — right-sized for a smaller site's power draw.
The cellular backup story scales the same way it does on our larger panels. Because the BP42 communicates locally with every expander and keypad on site, one communicator covers the entire deployment rather than one per device.
Equally Valuable as an Expander
The BP42 is as useful in a supporting role as it is as a primary panel. Like the BP52, it can operate as an expander over LAN, which solves the satellite building problem cleanly.
Consider a main facility with a detached warehouse or outbuilding. Instead of trenching a conduit run across the property, install a BP42 in the second building, power it over AC, and connect it to a local switch over ethernet. Joined to the site over the LAN, it extends the existing system and appears as a wired expander with no additional panel license required.
Cloud-Managed in Command
Like every Verkada device, the BP42 is cloud-managed and integrates natively with the rest of the ecosystem. From Command on web or mobile, teams can review live and historical sensor activity, work with zone mapping, and manage software-defined partitions.
Customers also get offline device alerts, 24/7 support, and automatic firmware updates, so the panel stays operational and keeps improving after it's installed.
