Introducing Privacy Controls for Verkada Intercom
As Verkada continues to expand its global footprint, we are committed to developing more advanced configurations designed to support our customers’ regulatory obligations. Today, we are excited to announce a suite of granular privacy features for Verkada intercoms that provides organizations with the flexibility to tailor how they stream and retain media. Additionally, these features allow businesses to scale their security infrastructure across diverse regulatory landscapes without compromising on regional legal requirements.
Feature Manager for Intercom
The Live tab in Command allows users to view live video and audio streams from their intercoms. However, some organizations may not choose not to continuously monitor or store this data due to local policy or regulation. To provide better control over both streaming and recording, a new intercom section in the Command Feature Manager now allows admins to disable continuous feeds outside of an active intercom call, and customize audio retention limits across their entire intercom deployment. With Feature Manager, admins can configure an intercom to remain “dark” and “silent,” and the Live tab will show a dark screen and the words “Streaming Disabled” until a visitor presses the call button to initiate a call.

Decoupled Audio and Video Streaming
In addition to the ability to toggle off continuous streaming across intercom deployments, admins can now independently manage video and audio streaming at the device level. This is critical for regions where video monitoring may be permitted, but continuous audio capture is strictly regulated. Because this setting can be applied to individual intercoms, organizations can tailor their privacy posture to meet local requirements and site-specific needs, enabling continuous video on devices in one region while restricting video to "call-only" in another.
Customizable Audio Retention
Data retention laws differ across geographies and use cases. To address these varying needs, we’re adding more granularity in how organizations are able to manage retention of captured audio by allowing admins the ability to disable audio retention entirely at an organization-level, or at a device-level. If audio retention is disabled, audio is available for real-time response – such as monitoring an entryway or conducting a call – but no audio files or transcripts will be retained. This helps ensure that Verkada intercoms can help multinational organizations stay compliant with local statutes, wherever their sites are located.

These features will be available on May 14, 2026. To get a personalized demo or free trial, contact your Verkada sales representative or email [email protected].
