Simplifying Perimeter Security with Point-to-Point Support

With the launch of the GW31-E Outdoor Wi-Fi Gateway in 2025, we made it simple to deploy Verkada anywhere with power and Wi-Fi, including hard-to-wire locations such as parking lots, fence lines, and school campuses.

Since then, one of the most common questions we’ve gotten is “When will Verkada support point-to-point?” Today, we’re excited to announce that point-to-point support is now available on the GW31-E.

Previously, customers would have to connect their GW31-E to a Wi-Fi network broadcast by a third-party access point (AP). This introduced added complexity, uncertain compatibility, and another vendor to manage.

Now, customers can use multiple gateways together for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint deployments, creating a complete Verkada perimeter security solution.

Point-to-point support

How It Works

Users can configure a GW31-E as the AP in three easy steps. Simply give it a WAN uplink, switch to AP mode in Command, and set a temporary password for the Wi-Fi network, just like a mobile hotspot. Client-mode gateways — those bringing devices online at the perimeter — connect using these credentials, establishing persistent point-to-point links.

Configuring AP Mode

Further, access point mode preserves one of the most powerful features of the GW31-E: built-in PoE. Customers can still power cameras directly from an AP-mode gateway, avoiding long cable runs from an IT closet to the building exterior.

From cellular to Wi-Fi to now point-to-point, we’re continuing to remove the barriers to deploying physical security anywhere. No extra vendors, no complex setup — just a seamless, end-to-end Verkada experience wherever you need it.

Get Started

Access point mode will be available May 14 on any GW31-E gateway.
