Now in public beta, AI-powered deterrence enables organizations to stop unwanted activity with human-like warnings. Instead of a single robotic message, the system triggers a sequence of realistic AI-generated messages that can incorporate scene context and escalate over time if the person remains in the area. Each deterrence event will now use a randomized voice to prevent repeat offenders from becoming accustomed to the same voice. This approach reinforces the perception of active monitoring and helps ensure that deterrence remains credible even in locations with frequent or recurring activity. Organizations can now enable AI-powered deterrence on Verkada intercoms. For aesthetic-conscious locations such as retail stores, banks, and professional services firms, intercom-based deterrence offers a cleaner and more discreet installation.

Beyond performing AI deterrence, intercoms now act as full-fledged speakers in a Verkada alarm system – meaning they can be used for automated announcements and human agent talk down if an alarm is raised. To learn more, read the full announcement.

With two-way audio communication via the BK22, SOC teams now have a direct line with staff through the keypad’s built-in speaker and microphone. During an incident, security teams can initiate the call and speak directly with people on site to confirm safety, provide instructions, and quickly determine the appropriate response. Site Admins can manage all BK22 keypad settings in Command in addition to doing so locally on the device. This streamlines management for organizations with many keypads in distributed locations.

Organizations can now create alerts for all alarm sensor events. This allows for multipurpose use of alarm sensors – for example, a door contact could trigger Door Held Open alerts during the day and intrusion alarms at night.

With webhooks for Alarm Raised and Alarm Resolved events, organizations can trigger third-party workflows such as mass notifications, PA announcements, and more. To learn more, see our API documentation.

On March 15th, 2026, Verkada will no longer sell the BR31 Wireless Door Sensor and BR32 Wireless Motion Sensor in the US and Canada. These sensors are being replaced by our next generation QC11 Wireless Door Sensor and QM11 Wireless Motion Sensor. On March 15th, 2026, Verkada will no longer sell LIC-BB and LIC-BA capacity licenses in Canada. Customers can instead purchase our LIC-BX-MB and LIC-BX-MA licenses. License renewals are unaffected. Learn more here.

With the ability to view live feeds directly on the BK22 alarm keypad, employees can quickly enter their key code and check exterior cameras to confirm that it’s safe to exit. Additionally, staff can use the live feeds to investigate what might be triggering certain zones before arming the site.
