Inside the Security Mindset: Risk Analysis Tips for Security Leaders
Join Deb Lieberman, an Evolutionary Psychologist and University of Miami professor, and Michael Evanoff, Verkada CSO, for a thought-provoking discussion on the science of human threat detection and the evolving role of AI in modern security operations. Drawing from evolutionary psychology, real-world security leadership, and emerging AI capabilities, this session will explore how humans assess danger, why organizations miss critical warning signs, and how intelligent security systems can help improve response accuracy.

You Will Learn
How humans subconsciously assess trust, safety, and threat potential
Why security teams can overlook dangerous behaviors or insider risk indicators
How emotions, bias, and organizational familiarity influence threat perception
How AI-powered security systems can help identify anomalies, plus emerging opportunities for AI cameras to detect threats in real time

Deb Lieberman, PhD, is an evolutionary psychologist, Professor at the University of Miami, and Editor-in-Chief of Evolution and Human Behavior. She is the author of Objection: Disgust, Morality, and the Law (Oxford, 2018) and Psychology: Evolution, Cognition, and Culture (Princeton, 2027).
Her work focuses on how evolved psychological mechanisms governing trust, cooperation, conflict, and emotion shape modern decisions. She applies this framework to help leaders, investors, and teams better understand people, reduce risk, and make more strategic choices.
Deb has been working with Joe Navarro, former FBI agent, author, and founding member of the FBI’s elite National Security Division Behavioral Analysis Program, and Dr. Peter Salerno, an author and clinician specializing in treating victims of traumatic cognitive dissonance, which arises from relationships with dangerous personalities. She now consults for executives, corporations, and individuals interested in understanding people in their network.
Michael Evanoff is a global security executive with over 30 years of experience spanning diplomatic protection, corporate security, and national intelligence. He began his career with the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service, serving in eight U.S. embassies and leading the protective detail for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice before becoming NATO’s Director of Security and Intelligence. He later served as Assistant Secretary of State for Diplomatic Security, overseeing the world’s most globally deployed law enforcement agency, before transitioning to senior security roles at Coca-Cola HBC, Walmart International, Jabil, and TC Energy. Michael’s service has been recognized with multiple honors, including the U.S. Presidential Meritorious Service Award and national medals from Lithuania and Estonia.
