Many government agencies have specialized security requirements when it comes to their technology solutions, including adherence to the FIPS 140-2 standard and the stringent security controls for cloud hosting and data processing.
Today, we are excited to announce Verkada Command hosted in AWS GovCloud, which will initially support two product lines: video security (via four new models of FIPS-validated cameras) and Verkada Guest, our visitor management solution. This represents a significant milestone in our journey to build the strongest, most secure solutions for government customers. In the coming months, we plan to release additional FIPS-validated cameras across all of our camera lines and pursue additional certifications to meet the needs of government organizations.
Verkada Command in AWS GovCloud
AWS GovCloud is an isolated AWS region designed to host sensitive data and regulated workloads for those organizations that must adhere to strict government security and compliance requirements. With our latest release, public sector customers will now have the option to have their Verkada Command organization hosted in AWS GovCloud. This gives them the flexibility to use Verkada’s secure cloud solutions on top of the additional security controls provided by AWS GovCloud.
Command in AWS GovCloud also includes numerous security enhancements that are critical for certain government users, such as continuous monitoring of the system, FIPS encryption in transit and at rest, and strengthened session and identity management capabilities.
Command in AWS GovCloud initially supports our FIPS-validated camera models and Verkada Guest. Access is limited to government organizations in the United States.*
Launching FIPS-Validated Cameras
We are also launching four new models of dome cameras that will allow customers using Command in AWS GovCloud to use Verkada’s powerful video security solution.
The CD42-F, CD52-F, CD42-E-F, and CD52-E-F all meet the FIPS 140-2 encryption standard, as validated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) Publication 140-2 is a U.S. government standard that specifies the minimum security requirements for cryptographic modules in information technology products.
Each of these cameras are FIPS-validated out-of-the-box. Customers using Command in AWS GovCloud simply need to plug in the camera and claim it for their organization – the camera will run FIPS encryption-in-transit and encryption-at-rest by default, with no additional settings required.
These hybrid cloud cameras have durable, vandal-resistant designs, advanced computer vision features, and are TAA and FY2019 NDAA compliant.
The CD42-F, CD52-F, CD42-E-F, and CD52-E-F are compatible with Command in AWS GovCloud, as well as the standard Verkada Command platform, allowing any public or private sector customer to use FIPS-validated cameras if they choose.
The CD42-F will be available beginning February 8, with the CD52-F following in mid-March.
In the coming months, we plan to release additional FIPS-validated models across our other camera series.
Verkada Guest in AWS GovCloud
Finally, we are excited to give U.S. government customers the ability to use Verkada Guest within Command in AWS GovCloud. These organizations will be able to use features like touchless check in, automatic host notifications, and custom badge printing to streamline check-in and provide a more welcoming experience for their visitors. Native camera integration also helps organizations increase security by enabling them to immediately find footage of visitors as they move throughout the facilities.
Verkada is putting significant resources into gaining FedRAMP Ready designation for our CD42-F, CD52-F, CD42-E-F, CD52-E-F, Verkada Guest, and Verkada Command in AWS GovCloud products. We have partnered with a 3PAO and are undergoing a Readiness Assessment. We ultimately expect to pursue FedRAMP Moderate Authorization for our FIPS-validated cameras, Command in AWS GovCloud, and Verkada Guest.
Our aim is to gain FedRAMP Authorization for all of our product lines over time.
